Sanford Health is an integrated health system headquartered in the Dakotas. It is one of the largest health systems in the nation with 43 hospitals and nearly 250 clinics in nine states and three countries. Sanford Health’s 27,000 employees, including 1,400 physicians, make it the largest employer in the Dakotas.

Nearly $1 billion in gifts from philanthropist Denny Sanford have allowed for several initiatives, including global children's clinics, genomic medicine and specialized centers researching cures for type 1 diabetes, breast cancer and other diseases.

Achievement of certification signifies that the services you provide have the critical elements to achieve long-term success in improving outcomes. It is the best signal to your community that the quality care you provide is effectively managed to meet the unique and specialized needs of stroke patients.

 

American Academy of Sleep Medicine Center Accreditation

AASM Center Accreditation reflects a commitment to ensure that sleep disorders patients receive the highest quality of care. By achieving accreditation, a sleep center demonstrates a commitment to the provision of quality diagnostic services and the longitudinal management of sleep patients.

 

American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Quality Star

The American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), a leading gastrointestinal medical society, has recognized the Sanford Center for Digestive Health for quality and safety. The ASGE Endoscopy Unit Recognition Program honors endoscopy units that have demonstrated a commitment to patient safety and quality in endoscopy as evidenced by meeting the program’s rigorous criteria, which includes following the ASGE guidelines on privileging, quality assurance, endoscope reprocessing, CDC infection control guidelines and ensuring endoscopy staff competency.

 

ANCC Magnet® Recognition

The Magnet Recognition Program recognizes healthcare organizations around the world that provide nursing excellence. Magnet®-designated health care institutions are part of the American Nurses Credentialing Center's (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program®, which means they are in the top 1 percent of facilities nationwide for nursing excellence. This credential is the highest honor an institution can receive for professional nursing practice.

 

Blue Cross Blue Shield - Blue Distinction® Center

Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota has named Sanford Bismarck a Blue Distinction Center + for Knee and Hip Replacement, and Spine Surgery.

 

 

Breast Imaging Center of Excellence – Breast Ultrasound
The American College of Radiology recognizes organizations that have gone through a rigorous review process to ensure that nationally-accepted standards of care are met. Personnel must be well qualified, through education and certification, to perform medical imaging, interpret images and administer radiation therapy treatments. Equipment must be appropriate for the test or treatment patients receive and must meet or exceed quality assurance and safety guidelines. Every aspect of the American College of Radiology accreditation process is overseen by board-certified, expert radiologists and medical physicists in advanced diagnostic imaging.

Bronze Award for Transplant Programs

The Department of Health and Human Services awarded Sanford USD Medical Center and Sanford Medical Center Fargo the honor for its kidney transplant work. The award measures quality of care as well as post-transplant survival rates, transplant rates and pre-transplant mortality rates. This award places Sanford in the top 23% of transplant programs in the country and we were the only medical centers in the Dakotas to secure the honor.

 

Bronze Medal of Honor for Organ Donations

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) honors Sanford USD Medical Center and Sanford Medical Center Fargo for its commitment to organ donation. Sanford has exceeded the HHS goal of 75% or more of eligible donors with a donation rate of nearly 80%.

CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities)

Designated by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, this accreditation signals a service provider's commitment to continually improving services, encouraging feedback and serving the community. Providers that meet certain standards have demonstrated their commitment to being among the best available.

 

 

Certification of Distinction for Inpatient Diabetes Care

The Joint Commission's Certificate of Distinction for Inpatient Diabetes Care recognizes hospitals that make exceptional efforts to foster better outcomes across all inpatient settings. Achievement of certification signifies that the services you provide have the critical elements to achieve long-term success in improving outcomes. It is the best signal to your community that the quality care you provide is effectively managed to meet the needs of patients. The Joint Commission's Inpatient Diabetes Certification Program is based on the ADA Clinical Practice Recommendation.

Certified Health Care Home

The Minnesota Department of Health certifies clinics that have met a set of rigorous standards to provide patient and family-centered care and are working to improve the overall quality and affordability of health care. MDH is nationally recognized for its certification process. Minnesota is one of eight medical home demonstration states in the nation. Minnesota State legislation established the program in 2008. Achievement of certification signifies that the clinic has met standards to the approach of primary care in which primary care providers, families and patients work in partnership to improve health outcomes and quality of life for individuals with chronic or complex health conditions. Clinics include internal medicine, family medicine and children's.

Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems

The Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) is an organization comprised of for-profit and nonprofit organizations that improve the quality and safety of medical transport services. They believe the two highest priorities of an air medical transport services are patient care and safety of the transport environment. Their accreditation standards address issues of patient care, quality, communications, aviation standards, management and safety in fixed and rotary wing services as well as ground inter facility services that provide critical care transports. Each standard is supported by measureable criteria to ensure a program's level of quality.

Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence

The American College of Radiology has named Sanford Fargo as a Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence (DICOE). The DICOE program recognizes excellence at multiple levels – including the professional staff, the technology and policies and procedures the organizations follow – and superior patient care. The Sanford Fargo medical imaging team is the only one in North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Iowa, Nebraska and Minnesota to achieve the ACR Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence designation. Gold Standard for EMS

The FM Ambulance team has earned gold recognition for implementing quality improvement measures for the treatment of patients who experience severe heart attacks. Mission: Lifeline® seeks to save lives by closing the gaps that separate STEMI patients from timely access to appropriate treatments. Mission: Lifeline also focuses on improving the system of care for patients.

Joint Commission Certifications – Hip Fracture, Joint Replacement – Hip, Joint Replacement – Knee & Joint Replacement – Shoulder

The Joint Commission seeks to continuously improve health care for the public, in collaboration with other stakeholders, by evaluating health care organizations and inspiring them to excel in providing safe and effective care of the highest quality and value. Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls and Sanford Health in Fargo have earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval™ for their hip fracture programs as well as their knee replacement, hip replacement, and shoulder replacement programs.

 

Level II Trauma Center

At a Level II, emergency room services and surgical services must be available 24/7. A Level II trauma center must also be part of a hospital that provides acute critical care and care throughout the continuum of the patients' illness and injury, as well as an in-house lab. They also need advanced life support immediately available on air transport, 9-1-1 and long-distance transport.


Lung Cancer Screening Center of Excellence

The Lung Cancer Alliance has recognized Sanford USD Medical Center's Lung Cancer Screen program as a Center of Excellence for its standards in best practices and multi-disciplinary team approach to providing lung cancer screens.

Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program Accredited Centers

Being named a fully designated bariatric surgery center as part of the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) symbolizes an institution's commitment and accountability to providing safe, high-quality surgical care to patients.

 

National Accreditation Program for Nuclear Medicine

The American College of Radiology recognizes organizations that have gone through a rigorous review process to ensure that nationally-accepted standards of care are met. Personnel must be well qualified, through education and certification, to perform medical imaging, interpret images and administer radiation therapy treatments.



National Accreditation Program for Computed Tomography

The American College of Radiology recognizes organizations that have gone through a rigorous review process to ensure that nationally-accepted standards of care are met. Personnel must be well qualified, through education and certification, to perform medical imaging, interpret images and administer radiation therapy treatments.

 

National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers

The National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) is a consortium of national, professional organizations dedicated to the improvement of the quality of care and monitoring outcomes for patients with diseases of the breast. The NAPBC Board defined 27 program standards and 17 program components of care that collectively provide the most efficient and contemporary care available.

The American College of Radiology recognizes organizations that have gone through a rigorous review process to ensure that nationally-accepted standards of care are met. Personnel must be well qualified, through education and certification, to perform medical imaging, interpret images and administer radiation therapy treatments.

National Accreditation Program for Radiation Oncology

The ACR seal of accreditation represents the highest level of quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting specific Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards developed by ACR after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified radiation oncologists and medical physicists who are experts in the field.

 

National Accreditation Program for Ultrasound

The American College of Radiology recognizes organizations that have gone through a rigorous review process to ensure that nationally-accepted standards of care are met. Personnel must be well qualified, through education and certification, to perform medical imaging, interpret images and administer radiation therapy treatments.

National Certification for Atrial Fibrillation

Sanford Heart Hospital is the only heart hospital in South Dakota to be accredited in atrial fibrillation by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care. The Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care focuses on transforming cardiovascular care by assisting facilities in creating communities of excellence that bring together quality, cost and patient satisfaction.

 

National Certification for Chest Pain

Sanford Heart is the only health system to be accredited in chest pain by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care. The Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care focuses on transforming cardiovascular care by assisting facilities in creating communities of excellence that bring together quality, cost and patient satisfaction.

 

National Recognition for Care in Heart Failure

The American Heart Association and American Stroke Association recognize Sanford Heart Hospital for achieving at least two years of 85% or higher adherence to all Get With The Guidelines® program quality indicators to improve quality of patient care outcomes.

 

National Recognition for Stroke Care

The American Heart Association and American Stroke Association recognizes Sanford Health with Get With The Guidelines (GWTG)-Stroke Gold Plus® Quality Achievement Award with Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus®

 

The Gold Standard in STEMI Heart Attack Care

Sanford USD Medical Center and the team at Sanford Heart Hospital have earned gold recognition for achieving Mission: Lifeline® STEMI Receiving Center Quality indicators and its work to continually improve the patient experience.

    

The Platinum Standard in Heart Attack Care

The American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association commended Sanford for its critical step in saving lives and improving outcomes of heart attack patients with the National Cardiovascular Data Registry Registry–Get With The Guidelines Platinum Performance Achievement Award. To receive the Platinum Award, Sanford consistently followed the treatment guidelines for eight consecutive quarters and met a performance standard of 90 percent.
