Mary Greeley Medical Center is the major healthcare provider in Story County and serves a 13-county region in central Iowa. While the majority of our patients come to us from Story, Boone, Hamilton, Hardin and Marshall counties, we serve Iowans across the state.
We were founded in 1916 as a gift from Wallace Greeley to the City of Ames and have served as a municipal hospital ever since. While we are city-owned, we do not receive tax support of any kind. Still, we are able to offer the lowest charges in the state for medical centers of comparable size and specialization.
These factors, combined with our people, facilities2 and community provide us a reputation that is unmatched. We are able to offer high-tech care from skilled professionals--the kind of care usually found in major metropolitan areas.
We boast a medical staff of more than 171 professionals offering over 36 specialties and sub-specialties. Those physicians are supported by a medical center staff of more than 1,300. Our nurse-to-patient ratio is among the best in Iowa and the nation.
