Under general supervision of pharmacist, coordinates and performs activities associated with dispensing areas, prepares drug orders on inpatient and outpatient floorstock orders. Utilizes aseptic techniques in flow hoods to prepare sterile products. Under general supervision of technician supervisor, carries out activities supportive of development, coordination and training of assigned areas. All pharmacy technicians must be certified within one year of employment. If certification not achieved by the end of one year, individuals will be terminated. (Board of Pharmacy Administrative Rules, Iowa Administrative Code 657, Chapter 3, Pharmacy Technicians.)
MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
1. High school graduation including a general mathematics course, or the equivalent.
2. Ability to type a minimum speed of 15 net words per minute.
3. Effective July 1, 2009, a Pharmacy Technician (Trainee) must be registered with the Pharmacy Board. All pharmacy technicians must be certified within one year of employment. If certification is not achieved by the end of one year of employment, individuals will be terminated. (Per Board of Pharmacy Administrative Rules (Iowa Administrative Code 657, Chapter 3, Pharmacy Technicians)
4. Experience requirement:
a. Two years experience in a position directly related to the natural sciences, or
b. Two years post high school education in the natural sciences or related area, or
c. A combination of related experience and related post high school education to equal two years.
Prefer experience with inventory maintenance activities, experience working in a team environment, experience working in a detail-oriented work environment, knowledge of Windows based computer programs, experience working in environment requiring accuracy, experience working in healthcare with one-on-one patient interaction & experience handling challenging interactions in work environment. Prefer National Career Readiness Certificate at Silver Level.
