RESEARCH ASSISTANT: DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHIATRY
BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
To assist in the performance of psychiatric research by recruiting subjects, gathering information and assisting in the preparation of material for inclusion in reports; administer tests and/or questionnaires and compile results; and to collect, tabulate, and assist in the processing of data obtained.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in recruiting, enrolling, administering cognitive tests and/or questionnaires. This requires alertness, interpersonal sensitivity and responsiveness, especially when dealing with impaired patients
Demonstrate strong communication skills, including developing rapport and speaking clearly and effectively when recruiting, scheduling and following up with participants.
Schedule and coordinate the collection and shipment of biological specimens with other departments and outside sources.
Demonstrate accuracy and promptness in collecting, recording and entering study data.
Maintain databases, ensuring data and communication records are current.
Prepare and submit Institutional Review Board documents.
Perform library research on specified topics and prepare bibliographies and abstracts according to instructions.
Assist with data compilation and analysis for reports and presentations.
Demonstrate ability to successfully multitask by effectively allocating time and managing involvement in multiple research projects.
Occasionally travel off-campus for recruitment activities
Minimum of 6 months to 1 year of progressively responsible experience in a research environment is required.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, attention to detail and organizational skills.
Fluent in the English language.
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Products.
Previous experience working with individuals with chronic medical and/or psychiatric illnesses.
Flexibility to work occasional nights and weekends to accommodate participant schedules.
