BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
This person will work in the Biochemistry research laboratory of David Price. Exciting projects in the lab use a combination of biochemical, molecular, and cellular approaches that address the regulation of human and viral transcription, especially RNA polymerase II elongation control. This person will be responsible for the generation and interpretation of experimental data and assist in the daily operations of the laboratory.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Propagation of human cell lines
Protein purification, SDS-PAGE, and Western blot analysis
DNA plasmid construction and mutagenesis (PCR, DNA purification, bacterial transformations)
Perform library research on topics studied, prepare research materials for reports, and assist in the preparation of papers for publication.
Order general laboratory supplies, maintain equipment, and sustain laboratory organization.
Analyze and interpret data with the help of others in the laboratory, and determine the validity of the results. Keep detailed laboratory notebooks recording experimental data and analyses and present these findings at weekly lab meetings. Recommend further experiments and/or changes in procedures.
Other duties as assigned.
Preparation of buffer solutions and common molecular biological reagents in the laboratory
Gel electrophoresis of DNA, RNA, and proteins
Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills
5. Proficiency in computer use (Windows and Office applications)
6. Knowledge of practices, behavior, applicable laws, rules and regulations governing ethical research conduct.
