This position supports Mercys philosophy of patient centered care by performing direct patient care including cardiac and thoracic procedures with physician supervision. W ithin the Physician Assistant (PA)/Physician relationship, PAs exercise autonomy in medical decision-making and services provided and will perform hospital rounds.
Job Specific Duties/Essential Functions
Provide care responsibilities as directed by a supervising physician including cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures.
Assess, assist, diagnose and treat medical or surgical problems and record findings
Perform, order, or assist in and interpret the performance of laboratory tests and x-ray
Perform office surgical procedures as needed.
Provide hospital patient rounds and instruct and counsel patients regarding their health.
Evaluate, treat and institute procedures essential to providing an appropriate response to emergency medical problems
Direct other medical personnel and health professionals in the execution of patient care.
Maintain awareness of health facilities, agencies and resource in order to facilitate the
appropriate referral of patients
Assist in the ordering of drugs, medications and supplies, record keeping and maintenance of equipment
Admit patients to hospital or health care facility as directed
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
Professional Experience Required vs. Preferred
1-3 years' experience preferred
Education-Required vs. Preferred
Graduation from an educational program and/or certification by the NCCPA
Licensure, Certification, Registration - Required vs. Preferred
Must comply with registration and licensure requirements as specified by the Iowa Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (required)
