Job Description

Under general supervision, responsible to coordinate and performs duties related to the overall operation and maintenance of building infrastructure systems including inspections and testing's to comply with regulations and applicable codes. Maintenance and repairs of these systems would include systems including but not limited to the following: Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning equipment as well as building automation and control systems, fire suppression and alarm, medical gas and piping, water supply systems, electrical, software and equipment. Ensures all actions taken in carrying out responsibilities support patient centered care.

Position Responsibilities
Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, test, and calibrate mechanical and electrical equipment providing heat, hot water, ventilation, air conditioning, electrical distribution, medical gases, fire alarm, and plumbing systems.
Make recommendations on major overhauls and replacement of equipment and identify, recommend and develop energy conservation projects.
Coordinate with staff in maintenance of heating facilities and mechanical equipment.
Coordinate with contractors in an emergency or project situation.
Maintains records required by Joint Commission, EPA, OSHA and other regulatory agencies.
Reads and interprets electrical and mechanical blue prints.
Performs other assigned duties.

Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education):
High School diploma.
Possession of a Stationary Engineer or Operator Engineer or First Class Fireman license or equal.

Preferred Qualifications:
Associate/Bachelor Degree in engineering, building operating systems, or similar applicable field.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
Five years of experience in the operation and maintenance of boilers and/or auxiliary equipment or HVAC equipment in commercial, industrial, or institutional facilities, of which are in a medical center environment.
Thorough understanding of Joint Commission and OSHA requirements.
Thorough understanding of engineering thermodynamics, heat transfer, air conditioning and refrigeration, pneumatic and electronic control systems and building design and maintenance.
Skill in effective oral and written communication in English.
Knowledge of basic arithmetic, algebra, statistics, and their applications.
Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
Active Listening skills, giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
Ability to manage one's time effectively.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
Knowledge of stationary equipment.
Knowledge of National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) codes & life safety codes.
