Unit Specific Position Responsibilities
Provides post partum cares for mother/baby couplet.
Provides care in Labor & Delivery and scrub & circulating in the operating room, if needed.
Practices the 10 steps to being baby friendly and promotes breastfeeding.
Participates in cross training through the orientation process to several skill sets including Labor and Delivery, postpartum and scrub & circulating in the operating room.
Performs according to AORN standards and recommended practices.
Maintains aseptic techniques and actively monitors for breaches in aseptic technique.
Performs in circulator role, caring for patient and assisting physicians during surgical procedures.
Performs in scrub role, setting up sterile field and assisting physicians during surgical procedures.
Provides education, orientation and mentoring to new staff, students and other hospital employees.
Performs related work per orientation and position competency checklists and skills validation.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience
Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education):
Licensed as a Registered Nurse and authorized by the State of Iowa to practice nursing or eligible to take licensing exam within four months of hire.
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing or in final semester of nursing school.
Achievement of Baccalaureate degree in nursing within 6 years of hire if hired after January 1, 2014.
HeartCode BLS training, or within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment.
Mandatory Reporter training or within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment.
If hired prior to graduation and licensure, must graduate and become authorized by the State of Iowa to practice nursing within four months of hire.
Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification within 90-day introductory period.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification.
Baccalaureate degree in nursing.
Professional certification in nursing specialty.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
Proficient in communication skills.

Ability to communicate effectively, in English, with diverse population groups.
Ability to be self-directed, flexible, and able to adapt to change.
Ability to communicate effectively in a professional and tactful manner with physicians, staff, patients and/or their representatives.
Ability to read and understand chart documentation.
Ability to demonstrate basic computer skills.
Ability to read, write and understand the English language.
