Under general direction, provides basic and advanced emergency medical care for assessment/evaluation, treatment, stabilization, and transport of the ill and injured for 911 response, inter-facility transfers, event medical support, and disasters. Provides security, emergency/code response, and patient care functions in hospital. Ensures all actions taken in carrying out responsibilities support patient centered care.
Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education):
Valid Paramedic certification for Iowa.
Valid Iowa Chauffeur license and eligibility for coverage under Mary Greeley Medical Center's insurance and maintained throughout employment.
Graduation from an accredited paramedic program with BETS approved skills.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers training, or within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) verification, or within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment
Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Life Support (PALS) verification, or within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment
AVADE Training or equivalent within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment
Hazardous Materials Operations training or within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment.
Critical Care Paramedic
Pre-hospital Trauma life Support (PHTLS).
Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
Skill in effective oral and written communication in English.
Knowledge of basic arithmetic, algebra, statistics, and their applications.
Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
Active Listening skills, giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
Ability to manage one's time effectively.
Ability to pursue and foster a sense of team and partnership across all disciplines.
Ability to demonstrate theory, techniques and practices utilized in emergency patient care for all ages; knowledge of oral, intramuscular and intravenous medication delivery, actions and contraindications; knowledge of dressing and splinting techniques.
Ability to perform advanced emergency treatments; ability to document; skill in assessing and interpreting patient conditions; skill in oral and written communication; skill in operation and maintenance of ambulance and equipment.
Ability to perform security functions and assist with violent patient management;
Ability to assume triage and treatment of multiple patients in mass casualty situation.
Ability to assist with patient care using specialized equipment and/or techniques in the hospital.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
One year paramedic experience with 911 ambulance service
One year experience with hospital based ambulance service.
Security or law enforcement experience.
Hazardous Materials Operations Level training.
Instructor in BLS, ACLS, PALS, PHTLS.
