Job Description

Under general administrative direction, provides organizational leadership in the development, implementation, and maintenance of service consistent with the Mission, Vision, Values and Strategic Plan of the Mary Greeley Medical Center. Director understands, supports, communicates and promotes Mary Greeleyinitiatives. Ensures all actions taken in carrying out responsibilities support patient centered care and a respectful work environment.
Manages and coordinates all activities of the Laboratory Services department.
Position Responsibilities

Unit Specific Position Responsibilities
Serves as resource person to medical personnel on laboratory services.
May perform laboratory tests and procedures.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience
Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education):
Graduation from an accredited college or university in Clinical Laboratory Science or a related science discipline and
Successful completion of an accredited Clinical Laboratory Science Program.
Registration as a Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master of Science Degree

Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
Skill in effective oral and written communication in English. Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar.
Knowledge of basic arithmetic, algebra, statistics, and their applications.
Active Listening skills, giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
Ability to manage ones time effectively.
Five years of progressively responsible experience in all phases of laboratory medicine
Two year's supervisory experience.
Thorough knowledge of all laboratory testing procedures; thorough knowledge of the latest developments in medical technology; considerable knowledge of employee relations techniques; considerable knowledge of budget procedures; considerable knowledge of reporting formats; knowledge of the standard demands for service made by other hospital departments on the clinical laboratory.
Ability to plan, organize and define duties and responsibilities; ability to assess the appropriateness of all laboratory procedures; ability to prepare laboratory reports; ability to plan for clinical laboratory supplies and equipment; ability to coordinate clinical laboratory services with hospital needs.
Ability to interpret results in light of current patient status;
Ability to recognize and analyze problems and come to a logical and timely solution to ensure accurate patient reports.
Skilled in performing automated and manual test procedures.
Previous experience with an electronic health record.
Demonstrated leadership abilities and skills shown by successfully leading teams/groups in projects, work assignments, policy updates, etc.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
Two or more years experience in a high complexity laboratory.
Experience in writing laboratory policies and procedures.
